Creating ample storage around the home is a challenge for most of us, especially when it comes to our yards. Just like indoors, the underside of a deck or staircase is a perfect space to convert into storage; use it for items such as garden tools, empty pots and outdoor recreational equipment.
Tip: Even if your deck is only 2 or 3 feet off the ground, creating a hatch for access to the crawl space is a good idea if you have utilities or pipes that run under your deck.

Joists: Structural lumber that supports the decking and runs from beam to beam or house to beam
Beams: Larger pieces of wood or steel that support the joists
Footing: A concrete pier that supports the deck posts. Make sure the footing is below the frost line in your area so it won’t move when the ground freezes.
Grade: Ground level

Decking frames: the structure and frames you work with are of vital importance. Get this rite and it will ensure the longevity of your deck, get it wrong and it will be to your peril.
No one wants their deck to start bowing or creaking ever. To ensure that our decks stand the test of time we insure a maximum spacing of 400mm-450mm between structural beams. Do not under any circumstances go beyond the 600mm gap, you will be living on the edge if you do that. To often we have come across decking that is warped and looking poor because of the build quality. Rather go with a trusted supplier and fitter that has a good reputation.
